The man who was the first UK dentist to introduce the practice of porcelain veneers almost thirty years ago has been recognised by his peers and presented with a lifetime achievement award from the BDBS.
Dr Mervyn Druian is known as a leader, lecturer and innovator in cosmetic and preventive dentistry and was the first UK dentist to complete the Aesthetic Advantage Programme at the Advanced level with Dr. Larry Rosenthal in New York. Once Mervyn had completed the programme, he was then instrumental in setting up the UK programme with Dr Rosenthal.
In 1983 Mervyn caused a phenomenon in UK dentistry when he introduced porcelain veneers to the British public. Since then, he has become of the worldâ€™s leading experts in cosmetic and aesthetic work and is in great demand as a teacher and lecturer around the globe. Mervyn was the principle dentist on the successful reality TV show, Extreme Makeovers UK and he is the dentist behind many recognisable, famous and beautiful smiles.
A member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD), Mervyn is also on a number of advisory committees of the British Dental Association (BDA). In 2007 he was placed on the distinguished American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistryâ€™s (AACD) Presidents Honour Role.
Dr Druian was presented with his award by Linda Greenwall the Chairman of the British Dental Bleaching Society (BDBS) at the World Aesthetic Congress in June.The BDBS is the only UK body to offer certification of tooth whitening procedures to all members of the dental team. The BDBS encourages research and innovation and lobbies policy makers on behalf of its members.
