The University of Portsmouth’s Dental Academy recently embarked an exciting new venture to enhance the training provided to dental students. Sponsored and supplied by Eschmann, the Academy officially opened a brand new and totally unique decontamination training suite, designed to close the gap between learning and modern practise.
Students training to become dental hygienists, therapists and nurses now have the opportunity to learn the crucial protocols of flow process decontamination in a safe, controlled and realistic environment.
Dean of the Faculty of Science at the Dental Academy, Professor Hayes officially opened the new suite, saying
The Dental Academy is, without a doubt, one of the jewels in the University’s crown. Through the provision of excellent facilities and exceptionally talented and dedicated staff, we have been able to develop a model for team-based education and training that is both the envy of other providers and appreciated by the students. We are extremely grateful to Eschmann who sponsored this facility and have been valuable partners in its creation. We are sure that what has been created here will play a significant part in preparing our students for life in primary care, and it is my great pleasure to officially declare this facility open.
David Gibson, Marketing Manager from Eschmann adds,
As the first and only one of its kind in the UK, this is a truly ground-breaking educational initiative, which we at Eschmann are delighted to be a part of. We want to help these students learn about decontamination in the right way, so that they have the practical skills to work safely and effectively in the dental industry. Although this is our first joint venture with a leading establishment, we hope it will not be the last and is a model we can look to repeat elsewhere in the UK.
