Ben Fund harnesses pedal power

Retired dental practitioner Mike Townsend, 67, will be cycling 140 miles from Inverness to Fort William and back to raise awareness and money for the year-long ‘Be Active for the Ben Fund’ campaign.

He will be tackling Scotland’s Great Glen Way, which runs alongside Loch Ness, from 21-23 September 2012. If you’d like to make a donation, please visit: www.justgiving.com/MikeTownsendCycle140

A Guys Dental School graduate of 1968, Mike is acutely aware of the need for help from the Fund: “Many dentists are at the end of their tether,” he says. “A lot of them have got stress problems, mental health issues; some of them are suffering from serious illness.”

The Fund relies heavily on donations from dentists, something that is increasingly difficult in times of economic uncertainty, “but,” he says, “if everyone contributed just a little, they wouldn’t have to dig that deep.”

Please make a donation, organise a ‘Be Active’ event yourself like Dr Townsend, or join in with a local fundraising event, and help your colleagues in times of crisis.
