UCL Eastman professor wins Provost’s Teaching Award

The UCL Eastman Dental Institute wishes to congratulate Professor Andrew Eder, this year’s recipient of a Provost's Teaching Award in the category of Supporting Student Learning.

The award celebrates leadership in education and demonstrates UCL’s commitment to the promotion of research-led teaching. Professor Eder’s more than 20-year association with the UCL Eastman Dental Institute began in 1989 as a graduate of the MSc in Conservative Dentistry. Following a number of teaching and directorship roles, he was appointed Associate Dean for Continuing Education in the UCL School of Life and Medical Sciences in 2008.

Amongst Professor Eder’s many key contributions to learning and teaching at the Eastman is his introduction of several Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma programmes in disciplines such as Aesthetic and Implant Dentistry, as well as the innovative and flexible MSc in Restorative Dental Practice, all of which have proved popular with busy professionals wishing to study part-time.

In addition, Professor Eder has championed the growth of web-based learning at the Institute, including the establishment of journal-based CPD for dentists and novel podcourses to ensure DCPs have access to the latest information on oral health care developments. Significant grants have also been secured to support research into educational outcomes and the development of innovative teaching technology.

A ceremony to celebrate the recipients’ achievements will take place on Thursday 8th July as part of the 2010 TILT (Teaching & Learning) conference at UCL.
